I bought mine second hand as my first bike as
* I liked the look
* my nephew said it's technically all right (I
took him along when bying it - otherwise someone
would have probably sold me a toaster with
wheels...)
* it was affordable and easy to maintain (belt)
* as a beginner in Germany I'm not allowed to go
with more than 34 HP anyway.
It still got me into some trouble, though:
There is a bunch of gays ("Stammtisch") gathering once a week in Lippstadt, where I live.I told them last year about my plan to get a motorcycle licence - a couple of beers later they started creating "the perfectly gay bike". Ideas went from paintworks in metallic pink or rainbow-colours to a "margret-astor"-beauty-case mounted as a top case (including 12V socket for the hairdryer).
At that time I wasn't really planning to buy a chopper anyway (legs are quite long and I thought I'd be better off with a dual purpose bike...), so I said I'd rather not make it too obvious, buy a black chopper with lots of chrome on it and just attach a pink handbag instead of the forkbag.
When I later got the savage, which is in fact black, all my friends went shopping for a pink handbag - fortunately none found one ugly enough.
Now I got a regular fork bag where it belongs and am glad with it. After a couple of miles the dead flies would spoil the appearance of a pink handbag anyway...
